Of Monsoon, Goats, Pengeras and Fellow-Bloggers

Today we're into the second day of non-stop heavy pouring rain. If it really rained cats and dogs, the humans in Kuantan will have to migrate and let the overflowing canines and felines rule the town! Yesterday, the whole of Sunday, persisted in a gloomy mode, dull and so very wet! The rain poured relentlessly, sometimes hard, loud and thrashing, sometimes soft, monotonous and drizzling, alternatingly. But never the sun shined a single minute, never! At times, the eeirie sounds of monsoon wind hit the rattling window, sounding so much like a human voice trying to scare little kids away. Even the sea-waves wanted a part in this monsoon 'play', culminating into a few feet high and hitting the beach with full vengeance, 'daboooosh!'

The whole house was cold and damp. I needn't switch on the fan at all and wrapped myself with the new Pashmina ikelah bought during his volunteer stint in Mansehra, whole day long. The chill penetrated my bones , brrrr! We went all over the house, like two lost Pashtuns, me and Luqman, :)), tightly wrapped in the shawls. Since the Pashminas were still new, the wool was rather prickly to my sensitive skin and I started scratching as though I have slathered belacan all over me! It even had the 'hamis' smell of 'bakri', still!

In the evening, as the weather got gloomier and darker with no sign of the rain ending its pouring act, I suddenly thought of my fellow-bloggers and how the weather was in their part of the world. So I sent an sms to Pycnogenol, Inositol, Beloved and Nurelhuda, telling them about the rain and all. Only Beloved replied. Apparently she was in an even worse state of gloom as she had her head under a pile of exam scripts that needed meticulous marking to maintain her clear conscience if she failed anyone. To dear Beloved, I ask Allah swt to ease your burden and may you accomplish your mission fast.

*this is the pengeras Kenakelayan gave me to uncover the identity of Pycnogenol~

iKelah had to work till seven yesterday, so we let the hours sail through the cold weather, doing our business (read: eating, reading, putting the room in order, reading the 'pengeras'*, solat, eating again, blogging), patiently waiting for him to come back. Once he reached home, we prayed Maghrib together and set off for dinner outside as promised to celebrate Luqman's UPSR results. No he didn't get 5As. He got only 4 but I am proud of him nevertheless. Alhamdulillah!

On the way back, we decided to stop at Kenakelayan's place ( her parents' actually). So we got to meet the baby goat! Her parents have ventured into the business of rearing goats and cows in their small farm at Paya Pasir, Chenor, Maran. This poor baby goat lost his mum after his delivery and he had to be bottle-fed. Che Ma (kenakelayan's mom) tried forcing another mother-goat to foster and breast-feed him but alas, it seems the concept of fostering is alien in the 'kambing'-dom (to quote kenakelayan) and he was literally 'kicked' out! Thus, they have to bring him back to Kuantan, tying him next to Sox's cage. Expectedly, Sox (an 8 yr old Siamese cat with beautiful big, marble-like eyes, dark brown body and white 'socks' and 'gloves', hence the name Sox) eyed the new addition to the family, with severe suspicions.

I managed to feed Bing Bing (yes, that's Kenakelayan's name for him) with his favorite grass (a cross between lalang and tebrau) and 'curi'curi' stroke his white fur. I can see why Che Ma and Che Pa have fallen in love with these caprine creatures. They are as lovable as cats are! Now if only I can make it lie on my lap, that'll be a difficult feat to accomplish I bet!

As I finished typing this entry, I was starting to feel relieved as the rain began quieting down, pelting its last drop when suddenly, a new thunderous shower began to fall again with shameless vigor!! Ah well, as the saying goes " if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" So let's snuggle and cuddle up together, with Pashmina shawls, wooly blankets and all! And savor the cool 'wintry' scene, ala Malaysia! Hot cappuccino anyone?

p.s. Latest on the weather condition here: it's still raining and the water level is rising. The small river that meanders through the wetland behind my house has overflowed and whole marsh is filled with a sea of water! Below is the view from Luqman's bedroom. I pray to Allah swt that the water-level won't get worse.

P5- now, now that's a blatant lie. Bing Bing is here next to me. I am baby sitting it and giving his milk in a bottle. He is fit as a fiddle!

I love monsoon rain. I love the sound, the sight, the scent and the chaos.

dith said...

Boogey- so you must have missed it when you were in Istanbul?

Monsoon reminds of my childhool.
Pashtun - a tribe I greatly admired for their warrior spirit. The rank next to Gurkha. The British feared them.
A kid without a mother and has to be bottle fed - make sure he's warm in this monsoon weather. Kids have a way of developing bloated belly in the middle of the night. Keep the fire going.

Dr Roza - enjoy the weather.

pardon me for second comment; but after reading your entry today, only i realised that ikelah is male, he he, and now 1 + 1 = 2; your hubby?

oii kuantang hujang lebat, macam mana ambo nok gi sana 4hb nanti? ok, let say hujan terus lebat, jalan mana ada banjir , kalau dari KT, ikut kuala brang ke ikut bandar dungun? mana lebih tak ada air atas jalan. my hubby the driver, dia tak suka lalu ikut dungung,,,sebab banyak traffic light, dia lebih suka gi ikut kuala berang sampai kuantan.

It is also a bit cold here in Melaka too. I did not reply your sms because I was afraid you terrrsalah hantar cos out of the blue you were talking about the weather just like the British do when they make small talk with their new acquanitance. Seeing that we are old friends I was thinking an sms from you would be more personal like for example ...Nurelhuda , you got a shoulder to cry on? I need one hehehehe
or something like that

DITH, yes one of the things i missed was the monsoon rain. One of my favourite song is also about rain by Allahyarham Sudirman. The best time to listen to the rain is at night.
Unfortunately in KL rain causes heavy traffic jam and that`s no fun.

Over at my bukit, it is gloomy too. Rains heavily at times, but it won't get flooded la. Takutnya tengok that pic. Itu sungai ke apa? I can't swim, hence am afraid of large bodies of water.

On the kambing .... hehehe Bing Bin is a cute name, like the cat I had when I was small whose name was Meow Ching Ching.

Keep warm.

(Oh, one more Q ..... Ikelah, what does it stand for? Ikan Kelah ke?)

kena siap sedia naik sampan....

dith said...

Bergen- apparently the pertanian ppl do not believe in keeping the fire burniing to keep the goats warm. It's not necessary they say

Has- yes that's what I heard too. The Jearangau rd is often flooded. SO just take the coastal rd, insyallah you'll be safe from flood

Nurelhuda-
Ok, next time I wont ask you about the weather but will ask for your shoulder ok! heheh.
Weii loh! Mu tak tahu ko ambo nih ado daroh omputeh British...seba' tu ambo out of the blue tanyo mu pasa cuaco..

Boogey- yes, listening to "hujan yg turun bagaikan..." with the sound of persistent Monsoon rain at the background can be melancholic...sedih campur sayu...

QOTH- I too have phobia towards water--cant swim too...tu gambar paya belakang rumah dah penuh air...Meow Ching Ching, wahh..siap macam nama org cina ada surname lagi! ikelah is ikan kelah, my hubby's fave ikan sungai which he once caught in abundance!

P5- Bing Bing sihat walafiat nih...mbek mbek...poo dia pon ok je

Em- thanks for the well wishing!

Nurul bahiyah- insyallah...tapi tak nak lah sampai kena naik sampan!! rumah I dekat laut, kalau dah kena naik sampan maknanya dah bercantum dgn air laut, nauzubillah!!!

All this non-stop raining just reminds me of the days in the East Coast when we have to sit for our major examinations. Imagine having to burn midnight candles serenaded by the ochestra from the frogs. It would have been all so easy to just pull the blanket and enjoy the sleep....but no, I chose to study and just like your Muhammad, I emerged as the best student for the HSC examinations !!

its been wet and...wet all week here in my part of selangor as well. as much as i love the coolness of the rain, i wish the sun would sometimes peek out to disinfect the suramness a bit.

btw, the last picture, the misty-ness gives a romantic effect to it. macam far far away land where people live happily every after.

(and congrats to your Luqman, my youngest brother also had 4As for his UPSR, alhamdulillah)

Dr O2 said...

well it is somewhat scarey to watch the kindda rain you have there on TV! no thinkin of being an eye-wtness to it!

How is the medical status in your part of the world?

dith said...

Dr o2- It depends on what you really mean by medical status. Usually to define the medical status of a country we go by the Maternal and infant mortality rate. Alhamdulillah these rates are in good check here in Malaysia.
Our advancement in Medical facilities I daresay are fairly upfront albeit many side glitches due to political interferences

I love the rainy weather, winds, lightnings, thunder and all, but I get terrified once it bordered on those floods and dangerous conditions!

Never thought that goats would make such cute pets :) Why did you have to stroke him 'curi-curi'? Sox will get jealous, is it? ;)

The pengeras looks an interesting read. Care to share what is it all about? Who's the author btw?
